We all want to look our best so we spend as much money as we can on expensive products that have been advertised and portrayed as a ‘remarkable’ product worth its ‘exorbitant’ price.

What cosmetic companies conceal from us is that these facial creams, masks and washes are full of harsh chemicals that do more harm than good to our skin in the long run.

Guess what? For every skin ailment and skin type, nature has already provided a cheap, readily available solution with no side-effects and amazing results.

Where can you find the ingredients for these treatments? At your local supermarket and in your very own kitchen!

Nature's Route

By Lauren De Hart

My recipe for the month:

Plain Greek yogurt and Honey Face Mask

  •  For glowing, moisturised and cleansed skin.

What you will need:

  • Plain Greek yoghurt, 100% organic full cream is preferred.

  • Natural honey.

Method:

Mix a teaspoon of honey with some Plain Greek yoghurt. Stir until smooth.

Instructions:

Apply generously to the face. Leave application on for 10-15 minutes. Gently rinse with warm water.

My verdict/remark:

Your skin will feel and look amazing.

How does this work?

Honey is a natural anti-bacterial and anti-septic. It cleanses and moisturises the skin, heals acne scars and slows down the ageing process.
Plain yoghurt is packed with probiotics, which provide us with good micro-organisms needed for a healthy skin and digestive system.

Honey and Oatmeal mask

  • Works as a homemade exfoliant without irritations and rashes.

What you will need:

  • Dry oatmeal (Jungle Oats acceptable).

  • Honey.

Method:

Mix the two ingredients, until a sticky paste is formed.

Instructions:

Apply and gently, rub into skin in circular motions. Leave on for 10 minutes. Rinse with warm water.

Beauty Tip:

After washing your face with warm water, rinse with cold water in order to close pores. Afterwards pat your face gently with a dry washcloth. Never rub!
