Last month, GASmag caught up with designer and creator of CL styling house Tara-Lee Delport.  

 

Delport provides the fashion savvy behind the brand and is an ambitious businesswoman who is creating a name for herself. She has been designing since she first put pen to paper. Her first fashion show was in Grade 11 and it was at that moment that she realised that this is her passion and dream.

 

She has since managed to establish a reputation in the local fashion scene of creating chic, stylish turbans and headbands. Each item is hand-crafted and created with passion.

 

Delport’s main influences are European trends, her favourite style icons are Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, Olivia Palermo and Miranda Kerr.

 

Delport thinks style is unique to each individual and a form of expression for different personality traits and lifestyles. CL is associated with eccentric, creative and stylish individuals who aren’t afraid to express themselves and push boundaries.

 

The biggest accomplishment for CL thus far is its three fashion shows. In terms of Cape Town’s fashion scene, she has recently collaborated with the local brand Lazuli, who were showcased in the recent Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week and proved to be a great success.

 

CL is based in Cape Town and stocks boutiques such as Portobello Road in Kenilworth, Mememe Boutique in Long street and online stores. Delport has plans to expand her range from accessories to clothing. She also wants to create a CL Styling House empire.

 

Establishing a line and brand comes with great responsibility and sacrifice, especially with the extreme influx of foreign imports flooding the market in recent years. 

 

Delport is satisfied with her progress, but she still hasn’t reached her apogee.
