Man of Steel

By Lizell Persens

If you haven’t seen this movie, you should definitely get it as soon as it’s released on Blu-ray and DVD. Watching the movie at home cannot compare to the cinematic experience, but is still worth every second!

Man of Steel is based on the DC Comics character Superman. One could easily argue that we have seen all that the Superman franchise has to offer, but Christopher Nolan has put a fresh spin on things by casting the dark and brooding Henry Cavill in the lead role and focusing on the character’s original storyline.

Development began in early 2008 and five years later audiences are enthralled by the result. The film was released in June 2013 and grossed more than 648 million dollars at the worldwide box office. A sequel will be released in 2015 with its main cast back in action.

Storyline: Planet Krypton is doomed due to its unstable core and depleted resources. Scientist and father Jor-El and his wife Lara transport their new-born son Kal-El to Earth for a better chance at survival, despite his not being human. General Zod is enraged and murders Jor-El. We’re taken on a journey of revenge and pursuit as General Zod and his followers are freed from banishment.

Meanwhile on Earth, Clark has no idea of his origins until General Zod tracks him down and threatens to destroy Earth if he doesn’t return to Krypton. The rest of the film depicts Clark and journalist Lois Lane fighting to save the planet and each other.

Check it out for some great effects, fight scenes… or if you’re a sucker for romance.
